Montgomery County Plumbing Guide: Emergency Plumbing Problems

Monday, July 30th, 2012

Plumbing emergencies are called that for a reason.  They happen at the most inopportune time and a fix normally cannot wait.  The plumbers at Resolve Rooter understand what types of plumbing problems constitute as an emergency and are available to help 24 hours a day.

Top Emergency Plumbing Problems

Some of the top emergency plumbing problems can include hidden water leaks such as broken water lines, broken drainage lines, slab leaks, sewer line leaks and sewer lines backing up.

Broken water lines and broken drainage lines can result from frozen pipes or old pipes that have corroded.

Slab leaks can result from pipes underground that have shifted due to soil movement.  This type of water leak can be quite detrimental since it can often take so long to realize that a leak is occurring under the concrete slab of a building.

Sewer lines that back up or leak can mean sewer water is seeping into surrounding soil and building materials which can be dangerous to health.

When water is flowing out of your pipes through holes rather than through them, it gathers in places such as inside walls, down into lower floors, crawlspaces, and basements causing destruction to whatever surfaces it happens upon.  Where the water flows, collateral damage exponentially increases, from flooding hardwood floors and carpets, to drywall damage, and even damaging furniture and household fixtures.  If water is then left standing it can cause mold and mildew to grow.

A Soldier Helps His Dad In The Trenches

Friday, July 27th, 2012

Fritz Carr, Jr., son of Fritz and Denise Carr (Owners of Resolve Rooter) has become a driving force of the family business since his exit from the military. His expertise and innovation of Trenchless Technology are changing the face of the industry as a whole. A recent article featured in phillyBurbs.com captures the Resolve Rooter story perfectly. Check out the full article here.

A father’s praise:
“No father wants his son in harm’s way, and I’m fortunate to have him home safely,” Carr Sr. said. “I felt that the trenchless industry was the future of our business but, prior to (Fritz Jr.’s) return, we were failing to move it in the right direction. He has now proven what I felt and his re-engineering, pioneering, implementation and accomplishments with the trenchless concept has, in my opinion, surpassed the industry and been essential for our sustainment and future growth and successes.”

Trenton Plumbing Guide: Components of Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement

Monday, July 23rd, 2012

Trenchless sewer line replacement is a relatively new procedure that is growing in popularity in Trenton. It is becoming more popular largely because it is less invasive and less time consuming – and therefore less expensive – than traditional methods of replacing a sewer line.

But what goes into the trenchless replacement process? There are four main components.

Component 1: Camera Inspection

Before starting the process of replacing the sewer line, your contracting crew will first use a special flexible camera to inspect the line. This allows them to determine just how much of the sewer line needs to be replaced, so they know where to drill the holes (Component #2) and how much pipe will be needed.

Component 2: Guide Holes

Once they have a visual on what they are doing, the crew will drill a small hole in the ground at either end of the section of the line that is to be replaced. These holes – much narrower than traditional trenches – go through the ground and into the surface of the pipe below.

Component 3: Specialized Cable

Through the holes, a special cable is run from one end of the damaged line, through the pipe to the other end. One end of the cable has a special bursting head attached to it, while the other end is attached to a device that will pull it through the line. This cable will act as the guide for the new pipe.

Component 4: Durable & Flexible Piping

Attached to the bursting head, following right behind the cable, will be a length of flexible but durable piping, usually high density polyethylene (HDPE). When the cable is pulled through the old line, the bursting head breaks open the old pipe from the inside, and the new pipe gets dragged in behind to replace it.

That is about all there is to it. Just like that, your Trenton home’s busted sewer line is replaced with a new, durable piece of material that will last for many years. To learn more, give Resolve Rooter a call today!

Doylestown Plumbing: Signs of Roots in Your Sewer Line

Monday, July 16th, 2012

Nobody installs a sewer line in Doylestown expecting that a tree root will work its way through the sturdy pipe to cause leaks and clogs. But, root growth is a powerful and often unpredictable process. Some tree roots can be many feet long, and even though the trunk is far away, the root can still go right through the sewage line in a matter of years.

Learn to identify the signs of roots damaging your sewer line in order to take proactive measures.

 1.       Occasional, unexplained toilet clogs

The occasional clogged toilet is nothing in and of itself. The source of the blockage could be anything from too much toilet paper to a misplaced stuffed animal, both of which can be solved with a good plunging. But, when clogs happen frequently and without explanation, then it is time to think about whether there is a problem in the sewer line that is clogging things up, such as a tree root.

2.       Drains backed up

If you experience more than one drain backing up at once, especially if you notice dirt backing up from the drain, that can also be a sign of a clogged or disrupted sewer line. An invasive tree root could be the culprit.

 3.       Water pooling on the lawn

Any time you notice unexplained pools of water on your lawn, there is cause for concern. Not only are these pools a breeding ground for termites, bacteria and other pests, they are usually an indicator of a larger problem, such as a broken sewer line. You see, when a sewer line ruptures or springs a leak, the contents start to leach through the soil and can collect at the top. So, if you notice water starting to collect with no apparent cause, it could be a root wreaking havoc in your sewer line.

4.       Foul water collecting anywhere

Water from a busted sewer line doesn’t have to just collect on your lawn. It could pool just about anywhere, including your basement of furnace room. What can tip you off that it is waste water from a sewer line that has been ruptured by a root is the smell. If the water smells bad, it’s probably from a sewage leak.

For any of these issues, call a Doylestown plumber to determine the source of the problem. It could be a root in your sewer line, but that’s just one possible explanation for the trouble.

New Hope Plumbing Tip: Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement Steps

Monday, July 9th, 2012

Replacing sewer lines can be a big project. It used to be that whatever was above your existing sewer line, including your driveway, steps, landscaping or your favorite trees, would have to be torn out. A trench would then be dug, a foot or two in width, all the way down to the sewer line to expose it. Once the job was completed the trench would be filled in and the soil raked over and seeded, leaving a mound of grassless dirt in your yard or a driveway in need of repair. You can still choose to have your New Hope sewer lines replaced this way, of course. With the trenchless technology available to us today, though, why would you want to?

Modern trenchless technology eliminates the need to expose your sewer line. When you call Resolve Rooter to replace your sewer line with our trenchless technology there are very few steps to the process, and they are minimally evasive to your property.

First we dig two small pits. One is dug at the starting point of the line into your home, and the other at its termination point in before connecting to the city sewer lines. When the job is finished these pits are filled back in. The process leaves so little damage to your property that it is hard to believe a job of this size was even performed on it.

Once the pits are dug it is time to hook up our hydraulic machine. Using about twenty tons of pressure this machine pulls a bursting cone through the existing line, which either bursts underground or is pulled out by the bursting cone. At the same time, the new sewer line is pulled into place by the machine.

Once the new sewer line is in place all that is left to do is cleaning up after ourselves. You can imagine that, compared to the trenching method, cleanup is a breeze after a trenchless sewer line replacement. The pits are filled in and we put down some seed after disassembling the machine that pulled your new sewer line into place.

Trenchless sewer line replacement is not always the most feasible option for this type of job. If you do decide to utilize this technology when you need new sewer or water lines installed in New Hope, call Resolve Rooter. Our team of plumbing professionals will get the job done quickly and conveniently, even by trenchless standards. Call us today for more information.

Richboro Sewer Line Replacement Tip: How Video Pipe Inspection Works

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

Due to the general inaccessibility of your Richboro plumbing system it can be difficult to pinpoint what exact problem you are experiencing and where the source of this problem is located. There is no better solution in the industry for these exact issues than to use video pipe inspection technology. Being able to visually inspect the insides of your plumbing system’s pipes, drainage and sewer lines is invaluable in accurately diagnosing a problem and making sure that it has been totally rectified. Here’s how it works.

A high resolution video camera is installed on a flexible rod. This rod is then fed directly into the pipe that is experiencing problems. By feeding the rod directly into the pipe your Richboro plumbing technician is able to examine its inner workings and actually see for himself any weaknesses in integrity, blockages, or problematic connections. The video pipe inspection process essentially removes any guesswork in figuring out the type and location of a problem within your plumbing system.

Because issues with your plumbing and sewer lines can develop deep within the system there is opportunity for them to go unnoticed until a major problem presents itself. This is exactly the type of situation that can be avoided with video pipe inspection. The images captured by the camera can be saved so that your plumbing specialists can review them later. This allows a thorough reading of the footage and a total understanding of the problem. There are even radio transmitters installed on the pipe camera to gauge the depth of problem sources.

The biggest advantage in repairing your plumbing system’s problem is to identify just what that problem is early on. This identification can be made less intrusively than ever thanks to video pipe inspection. In addition to accurately locating sources of problems and avoiding larger ones, video pipe inspection allows for extremely accurate quotes and estimates from your Richboro plumbing technician. With video inspection you don’t have to worry about being quoted a price only to find out it has doubled due to unexpected complications with the problem.

Save yourself time, money trouble. When you notice that your plumbing system is not performing the way it should be call for professional help right away. If you’re in the eastern Pennsylvania or New Jersey area, Resolve Rooter is here to assist you with any repairs or maintenance that your plumbing system may need. We can accurately pinpoint your source of trouble and will fix the situation quickly.
