MILL BALLET SCHOOL STUDENTS PERFORM IN BUCKS COUNTY’S
9/11 HEROES RUN
The Hunterdon County and Bucks County based Mill Ballet School was honored to have its students perform a contemporary ballet piece, titled “We Run”, in the annual 9/11 Heroes Run. This performance had special meaning to The Mill Ballet School and the Roxey Ballet Company as one its students and performers, Emma Manion, is the cousin of the fallen hero, 1st Lieutenant Travis Manion who died in Iraq on April 29, 2007. The song “We Run” was written and sung by Liz Longley, also a cousin of Travis Manion. The Travis Manion Foundation organized the 9/11 Heroes Run in Doylestown, PA and over 40 other runs throughout the country and the world.
“The goals of The Mill Ballet School are not only to educate, inspire, and create high-caliber dancers, but to help develop high-quality individuals as well. We can think of no better way to teach the virtues of compassion, gratitude, and good citizenship than by participating in the 9/11 Heroes Run,” remarks Melissa Roxey, Founder of the Mill Ballet School. “We hope that our dance tribute to our nation’s fallen heroes was able to touch many and that we brought the joy of dance and the arts to our Bucks County community in an inspiring way.”
Emma Manion comments, “It meant so much to me to be able to dance with my friends and peers at the Mill Ballet School for such a special cause. I feel like I have grown up taking dance and ballet classes at the Mill Ballet School and it is amazing to see my real family and my dance family combine forces to “honor the fallen by challenging the living”. I am so proud to have been a part of this event.” In addition to dancing at the event, Emma and her Mill Ballet School counterparts also ran in the 5K race to raise money for the Travis Manion Foundation, named in honor of Emma’s cousin.
